FAQ

Common questions.

What is geocoding?

Geocoding turns a street address into latitude and longitude coordinates, so it can be placed on a map or joined to other location data.

What is reverse geocoding?

Reverse geocoding starts from a coordinate and tells you what is there. This tool returns the nearest address on file within about 100 metres, plus the neighbourhood or municipality at that point.

Is this lookup free?

Yes. You can use it without an account, up to a limit per minute. For bulk or production use, see the Neighbourly API.

Does it cover all of Canada?

The lookup is built for Canadian locations. Addresses and coordinates outside Canada will not return a match, and availability can vary by area.

Can I look up a postal code?

Not in this tool yet. Enter a street number, street name and city. For postal code data, see our Postal Code Lookup page.

Why did I get several results?

Similar addresses can exist in different places, or as different units in one building. Pick the one that matches, and check the municipality and province.
